This young girl has competed in Yabusame for more yrs than I've lived in Japan. She didn't always do great but the last two yrs, she's ranked at the top and this yr, she WAS the top competitor. She earned it. She kept coming back. Striving to be the best because she knows and understands, there can only be one "Best." She was driven to do better. When not competing, she encourages the other younger ones.

One thing that's bothered me for some time now is this movement around the US schools to caudal our kids into thinking we're all equal. We're all winners. No losers. Everyone deserves a trophy. I call bullcrap! This breeds a society of kids that think they deserve everything. I guess that's why you see 5 yr olds with iphones...REALLY?!!!

In order to be a winner, there's got to be a loser. The first loser is second place. This creates competition and drive to succeed and do better. Want to know why criminals are getting younger and younger these days? Because why work for something when you can take it...because you deserve it.

I'm sure I'll get negative feedback on this post but I will say that this is my personal belief based on my experiences working in an emergency responder type environment. I see it day in and day out.

My opinion. You don't have to agree. There's only one "#1." Second place is just first loser.
